Support iHackCharities.org

Companies partner to provide laptop donation to organization working to improve the lives of orphans in Uganda

Annapolis Junction, MD, April 17, 2008 – PROTEUS Technologies, working in a partnership with Praxis Engineering, recently donated 20 nicely equipped laptops to iHackCharities.org, an organization with a surprising, almost startling name – touting an inspiring mission to support organizations like Action for Empowerment (AOET), providers of technical/vocational and educational resources to Ugandan orphans and homeless mothers.  Founded by Mr. Johnny Long, a security expert, “Hackers for Charity” is fervently evangelizing its mission to “connect the wealth and skills of the hacking community to charitable organizations in need”, with individuals and companies that would like to give back to the world community in a unique and positive way.  Support to AOET is through volunteer hours, computers, and supplies (such as the ‘swag’ items that are freely given out at corporate conferences and expos).

Mr. Long was recently the key-note speaker at a joint security brief for PROTEUS Technologies and Praxis Engineering.  His presentation on critical security issues facing our Nation was both informative and thought provoking for the staff members in attendance.  Johnny Long’s involvement in the intelligence industry, coupled with work for AOET was all that PROTEUS’ Executive Vice President, Dr. Charles Taylor, needed to know before deciding that providing corporate support to Johnny’s cause from PROTEUS was the right thing to do.  Dr. Taylor worked closely with Mr. Mark Klein, Executive Vice President of Praxis Engineering, to coordinate the donation.  Mark states, “Praxis Engineering was eager to team with PROTEUS Technologies in supporting Hackers for Charities classroom initiatives.  We were also pleased to be able to bring Johnny Long’s expertise of critical security issues facing our Nation to our employees.”

Mr. Long, who lives in the Baltimore Area, is recognized for his background in Google Hacking, a process by which vulnerable servers on the Internet can be identified through specially constructed Google Searches.  He is also an author and editor of numerous computer security books.  In recent years, Johnny has become a regular speaker at many annual security conferences.  His dedication to running www.ihackcharities.org has proven that you can combine the volunteer skills of successful hackers and donated supplies to help raise the profile of HIV/AIDS relief efforts in countries like Uganda.  The charity is made up of a group of skilled hackers who will do volunteer work with AOET, lending their skills in fundraising development to help communities in need.
